Golden-backed Frogs (Genus Hylarana)
Genus Hylarana is a taxonomic genus of amphibians belonging to the order Anura, family Ranidae, and commonly referred to as Asian true frogs. It comprises frog species primarily distributed across South and Southeast Asia, where they inhabit tropical forests, wetlands, marshes, ponds, and streams. Members of this genus generally possess slender bodies, long hind limbs, smooth or slightly granular skin, and well-developed eyes adapted to their often semi-aquatic lifestyles. Their coloration varies among species, commonly featuring green, brown, golden, or reddish tones with distinctive markings along the body. They are predominantly insectivorous, feeding on insects and other small invertebrates. Reproduction typically occurs in freshwater environments, where eggs are deposited and develop into aquatic tadpoles. The genus Hylarana is an important component of regional amphibian biodiversity, although its species composition and taxonomic placement have undergone revisions as a result of morphological and molecular studies.
