Orangestripe Triggerfish

Balistapus undulatus

Dark green with orange stripe.
As an exception among the triggerfish, the sexes of this species can be externally distinguished.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : Prefers coral-rich lagoons and outreefs, 1-50 m. Feeds on branched coral tips, sea urchins, crustacean, bristleworms, sponges and other invertebrates as well as small fish and algae. When spawning, it creates shallow nest troughs in sand or rubble.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
