Squarespot Anthias

Pseudanthias pleurotaenia

Male: magenta-colored with large, bright rectangle on the side. Female: orange, with a few violet stripes from the eye to the lower tail base. Similar to the females of scale fin anthias, whose stripes extend only to the pectoral fin base.

Size : 20 cm

Habitat : Prefers steep outer reef slopes, 10 to more than 100 m, usually below 20 m. In loose groups, male with harem of up to about eight females.

Distribution : Bali to NW Australia, SW Japan, Micronesia, Samoa and New Caledonia.
