Habits and Lifestyle

Haliaeetus leucogaster is generally territorial, with some birds forming permanent pairs that inhabit the area all year round, while others are nomadic. The species is monogamous, with partners remaining together until one bird dies, after which the surviving birds quickly find a new mate. This can result in some nest sites being constantly occupied for years. Immature birds are generally dispersed, with many moving more than 50 km (31 miles) from the area in which they are raised.

Diet and Nutrition

The diet is very varied, such as sea snakes, turtles and small turtles, water birds such as sea shears, petrells, gulls, chrysanthemums, cormorants and claws. Also large water birds such as geese, ducks and grouse. Mammals are generally domestic rodents such as mice. This type of hunting method almost resembles (Haliastur Indus) , which is to fly around while watching the water surface and will immediately slide towards its prey as soon as the prey is seen. Catch the prey using its strong legs then bring the prey flying.
