Copsychus saularis

Description

Copsychus saularis is 20 cm in size, predominantly white and black. In individual males the head, crown and back, and wings are light black, while the chest and lower tail are white, and there is a white stripe on the wings. The females are like males but the black part of the males becomes a dull gray color.

Copsychus saularis feed mainly on insects and other invertebrates. Sometimes it also feeds on the nectar of flowers, geckos, leeches, centipedes, and even fish.

Mating Habits

The male Copsychus saularis is quite aggressive in the breeding season and will defend its territory, breeding mainly from March to July in India and January to June in Southeast Asia, nesting in tree holes or niches in walls or buildings, nesting cavities that work with grass. The nesting is done 1 week before the eggs are laid, made by both broodstock. Lay four or five eggs and incubated by the female for 8 to 14 days. Female individuals spend more energy to feed the male.
