Bracypteryx leucophrys

Description

Bracypteryx leucophrys has a very small body (11-13 cm), short tail, long legs, faintly pale eyebrows, dark yellow eye circles, large beak. The adult species has a red-brown color on the upper body, the lower part of the body is whitish, while the sides are dark yellow with a mottled chest. The female species has a darker yellow underbody color. For juvenile species, the body is streaked and mottled, the iris is light brown, the bill is brownish black, and the feet are pinkish-purple.

B leucophrys are often found in hilly and mountainous forests scattered at an altitude of 900-1,900 m above sea level.

Country : Himalayas, Southern China, Southeast Asia, Peninsular Malaysia, and Indonesia. In Indonesia this bird can be found on the islands of Sumatra, Java, and the Lesser Sundas.

Habits and Lifestyle

B leucophrys very happy and actively moving in the undergrowth on the ground using his feet. This bird is known to be quite shy and can rarely be seen. When outside of the mating season this bird lives alone, while in the mating season it will live in pairs by raising 2 to 3 children.
