Description

Accipiter trivirgatus has a dark body color and a clear crest. Adult males have a gray-brown upper body color (dark brown crown and gray head sides) with stripes on the wings and tail. The lower body is rust red, the chest is streaked with black, there is a thick black stripe across the white belly and thighs. The neck is white with black stripes descending towards the throat. Females and juveniles are like adult males, but streaks and transverse stripes on the lower body are brown and the upper body a paler brown.
