Zebra Shark

Stegostoma tigrinum

Juvenile black-and-white banded. Adults with leopard-like blotches.

Size : 280 cm

Habitat : Inhabits sand, rubble and coral ground of reefs, 5-70 m. Bottom-dwellers, usually dormant on the seabed during the day. At night, predominantly feeds on moluscs, crustaceans and small fish. Harmless, but can bite if harassed.

Distribution : Red Sea, East Africa to S Japan and New Caledonia.
