Tiger Shark

Galeocerdo cuvier

Broad, blunt head. Upper side of body with dark vertical bands.

Size : 550cm

Habitat : Deep lagoons, bays, external and offshore reefs, 1-300 m. During the day often in deeper water, at night in coastal vicinities in shallower waters. Has large, unconstrained hunting grounds, but sometimes also makes migrations unto more than 3000 km. Very dangerous, but rarely aggressive.

Distribution : All tropical seas, seasonally also in subtropical seas.
