Blotched Fantail Ray

Taeniurops meyeni

Many differently sized irregular black blotches on grey ground.

Size : body plate 164 cm

Habitat : On sand and rubble surfaces of coral and rock reefs, 3-500 m. Feeds on bottom-dwelling fish and invertebrates, such as mussels and shrimps. Often blows troughs in the sandy soil in order to expose prey.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Galapagos and Australia.
