Slingjaw Wrasse

Epibulus insidiator

TP: (Male) with white face and orange-colored neck.
IP: (Female) is cream-colored to dark brown, also luminous yellow varian often seen.

Size : 35 cm

Habitat : Inhabits coral-rich lagoons and outreefs, 2-40 m. Loner, possible in small harem groups, relatively shy. Feeds on shrimps, crustaceans and fish. It can rapidly thrust out its slingjaw tube and also suck in prey that live in-between the corals.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Micronesia, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
