Rockmover Wrasse

Novaculichthys taeniourus

White vertical stripe on tail root.
Juveniles are brown with light speckles and imitate drifting seaweed in colouration and movement above the seabed.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outreefs, 2-45 m. Can usually be observed alone and above mixed sand-coral areas near reef. Feeds on bottom-dwelling invertebrates and also turns rubble over in order to uncover them.

Distribution : Red Sea, East Africa, S Oman to SW Japan, Hawaii, Panama and Polynesia.
