Redfin Hogfish

Bodianus dictynna

TP: Black spot at tail root. Dorsal side with 4-5 white, ventral and anal fins with red patches. Juveniles are reddish-brown with numerous white markings. Black patches on the fins. Can often be seen at facebooked sea whips and black coral.

Size : 20 cm

Habitat : Prefers coral-rich outer reef slopes, 5-25 m. Swims alone or in pairs in areas with good coral growth. Feeds on invertebrates such as crustaceans, mussels and snails.

Distribution : Malaysia and Indonesia to the Philippines, Western Micronesia, GBR, Samoa and Tonga.
