Pinstriped Wrasse

Halichoeres melanurus

TP: (Male) with large, black spot on the back edge of the caudal fin, head with red stripe on green to blueish ground.
IP: With eyespot at upper tail base, an additional eyespot in the dorsal fin middle and a small black spot in front. The initial phases of H. richmond, H. purpurascens and H. vrolikii (Indian Ocean) are very similar.

Size : 12 cm

Habitat : Prefers protected reefs, 1-15 m. Swims alone or in small groups. Feeds off small invertebrates such as crustaceans and bristleworms.

Distribution : Indonesia to SW Japan, Micronesia, Samoa and GBR.
