Lyretail Hogfish

Bodianus anthioides

Adults: brown-red front of body, white with reddish brown spots rear of body.
Juveniles are differently colored. They frequently rest in close proximity to sea whips, soft coral and black coral bushes.

Size : 21 cm

Habitat : In deep lagoons, bays and out reefs, 5-60 m. Adults in search of bottom-dwelling invertebrates are often over sand and rubble ground of the reef.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Line Islands and French Polynesia.
