Variable colouration, however always with diagonal cheek stripes.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : In coral-rich lagoons, bays and outreefs, 3-60 m. Loner, not shy, occasionally even curiour. Sometimes swims close above and between coral blocks, sometimes also a good distance above the seabed. As a predator, it feeds on small fish.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, New Caledonia and Samoa.
