Floral Maori Wrasse

Cheilinus chlorourus

Colouration very variable from light grey-blueish to green with red parts; usually with small white dots arranged in horizontal rows, also often white irregular patches along the back.

Size : 36 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and coastal reefs, 2-30 m. Usually in mixed zones with sand, rubble and coral. Always swims near seabed, feeds on various invertebrate bottom-dwellers.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia and French Polynesia.
