Cigar Wrasse

Cheilio inermis

Long extended body, variable colouration, brown, green or yellow.

Size : 50 cm

Habitat : In protected areas of rock and coral reefs or above seagrass, 1-35 m. Shy. Likes to swim along with goatfish and other wrasse in order to snatch exposed prey from the sand. Its food sources included molluscs, crustaceans (crab and shrimps) and also sea urchins. Generally shy.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Hawaii, Micronesia and Polynesia.
