Rhinecanthus rectangulus

V-shapped marking at the back.

Size : 25 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outreefs, 1-18 m. Territorial and shy. Prefers mixed coral, rock, rubble and sandy areas. Juveniles are often on shallow reef roofs. Like the other species of this genus, it feeds on invertebrate bottom-dwellers such as crustaceans, worms, brittle starfish, sea urchins, sponges, as well as fish and algae.

Distribution : Southern Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Hawaii and Ducie Islands.
