Blue Triggerfish

Pseudobalistes fuscus

Blue to blue-grey with small yellow patches.
This fish has erected its first dorsal fin, which triggerfish can use to wedge themselves into crevices.

Size : 55 cm

Habitat : Inhabits lagoons, bays and outreefs, prefers reef with sand, rubble or seagrass surfaces, 1-50 m. Feeds on various bottom-dwelling invertebrates and spends much time blowing these free from the sand. It is frequently accompanied by wrasse and other fish which snatch exposed prey. Shy, but can be aggressive when watching over its nest.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Micronesia and French Polynesia.
