Tailspot Squirrelfish

Sargocentron caudimaculatum

Red with white scale edges and white tail root (at night this becomes red).

Size : 25 cm

Habitat : In deep lagoons and outreefs with rich coral growth, 2-50 m. Alone or in loose groups. Usually in protected locations, such as overhangs and caves. Hunts small fish and crabs at night.

Distribution : Red Sea, S Oman and East Africa to S Japan, Micronesia, GBR and French Polynesia.
