Humphead Batfish

Platax batavianus

Frequently with speckled black patches on the belly.

Size : 50 cm

Habitat : Prefers lagoons and protected coastal reefs, 5-45 m. Usually alone or in loose small groups. Rare compared to other Platax species. Juveniles with white-black stripe pattern and extended pectoral, anal and ventral fins.

Distribution : Malaysia to North Australia and PNG.
