Yellow eye. Dark leading edge of the pectoral fin, sometimes also black.
Juveniles have two conspicuous white patches on their rear back. They remain close to the seabed and usually keep close to coral.
Size : 80 cm
Habitat : In lagoons and out reefs, 3-70 m. Alone, in groups, occasionally also in large shoals, usually in open water in front of the reef. Hunts small fish. Regularly ciguatoxic in certain regions.
Distribution : Red Sea, S Oman and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, GBR and French Polynesia
