Humpback Snapper

Lutjanus gibbus

Reddish-grey with dark dorsal and caudal fins. High-backed in the neck area.
Humpback snappers regularly form very large, dense shoals in certain regions.

Size : 50 cm

Habitat : In deep lagoons and protected out reefs, 1-150 m. Alone, but also frequently in large, semi-stationary and inactive schools. At nigh it hunts alone for crustaceans.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, SE Australia and French Polynesia.
