Black-finned Snake Eel

Ophichthus altipennis

Head light to dark brown with several black dots, blue-grey snout. Pale area on the snout in front of the eye is an identification characteristic. Black pectoral fins.

Size : 80 cm

Habitat : On soft ground along coast and in bays, usually 3-10 m. Buried in the ground so that only the head is visible.

Distribution : Malaysia to S Japan, Marshall Islands and French Polynesia.
