Devil Scorpionfish

Scorpaenopsis diabolus

High dorsal hump. Inside pectoral fins with orange and yellow bands.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : On rubble, sand or coral in lagoons and outer reefs, 1-70 m. Feeds on small fish. When harassed, it shows the luminous coloured inner surface of the pectoral fins. Diver often confuse it with the stonefish, but these have a vertical mouth opening.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
