Arothron mappa

Pale with black, maze-like pattern; radial around the eyes.

Size : 60 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outer reefs, 4-40 m. Feeds on sponges, sea squirts, snails and algae. Only moderately shy. Usually near the bottom in areas rich in hiding places. Large specimens occasionally also travel through the reef during the day in the open.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, Samoa, New Caledonia and Tonga.
