Shortspine Porcupinefish

Cyclichthys orbicularis

Brownish to rust-brown. Also pale cream-coloured above white sandy bottom. Often groups of dark patches. Fixed darbs.

Size : 15 cm

Habitat : In protected reefs and bays above sand and rubble ground, 2-20 m. Rest during the day at protected places. At night also grazes the seabed in the open for crustaceans, molluscs and worms.

Distribution : Red Sea, Arabian Gulf, East Africa to S Japan and NE Australia.
