Spiny Seahorse

Hippocampus histrix

Long snout. Conspicuously large, pointed barbs. Colouration variable: yellow, red, brown, greenish.

Size : 17 cm

Habitat : In protected coastal reefs, 6-20 m. In seagrass fields, on soft and hard grounds with growths of soft coral, hydrozoa, sea whips, sponges or algae.

Distribution : East Africa (Tanzania, Mauritius) to India, the Philippines, S Japan, Micronesia, PNG, Samoa and Tonga.
