Pygmy Seahorse

Hippocampus bargibanti

Large, bulbous tubercles strewn over the body. General colouration is usually red. Yellow and very pale versions also coccur.

Size : 2 cm

Habitat : On horn coral, 10-40 m. Colouration adapted to the environment and the skin structure, especially the wart-like tubercles, finely adapted to exactly match the horn coral on which it lives (especially Muricella species). Alone or is small groups and true to their locations the respective host coral. Because of its small size, it is also not easily discovered.

Distribution : Indonesia to S Japan, North Australia and New Caledonia.
