Bluemoon Parrotfish

Chlorurus atrilunula

Female with several (usually four) vertical bands of white rectangular patches. Male with dark blue tail sickle.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : Inhabits protected reefs, 1-20 m. Over coral, sand and rubble areas. Scrapes small algae growth from substrate.

Distribution : East Africa (Kenya to South Africa) to Chagos Islands, the Maldives and Seychelles.
