Whitemouth Moray

Gymnothorax meleagris

Brown with numerous white spots, mouth has a white interior.

Size : 120 cm

Habitat : Inhabits coral-rich, clear lagoons and outreefs, 0.3-36 m. This species is active day and night, and predominantly hunts fish and shrimps. It is often ciguatoxic. Said to be and imitation of Calloplesiops altivelis but this is not proven.

Distribution : East Africa and Southern, Red Sea to SW Japan, Hawaii, Galapagos and SE Australia.
