Snowflake Moray

Echidna nebulosa

Whitish with larger brown and smaller yellow blotches.
At night, this species frequently goes hunting in open areas. It feeds on crabs and mantis shrimps, as well as occasionally on small fish and squid.

Size : 75 cm

Habitat : In shallow lagoons and outreefs, also on rock and soft surfaces and in tidal areas to 30 m. This predominantly nocturnal species can leave the water abruptly in order to feed on shrimps on rocky beach areas. Juveniles are often seen in low tide pools on the reef roof.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Hawaii, Panama and French Polynesia.
