Zebra Lionfish

Dendrochirus zebra

Fan-shaped pectoral fins, inner side with dark radial stripes.

Size : 20 cm

Habitat : Found in protected inner reefs, 1-70 m. Often at individual coral heads or overgrown rocks. Hunts crab, shrimps and small fish from the late afternoon (up to 3 hours before sunset) and at night. Then are often observed on sandy ground. Male aggressively defends his territory with several harem females.

Distribution : From central Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Marshall Islands, SE Australia and Samoa.
