Twinspot Lionfish

Dendrochirus biocellatus

Two, occasionally also three conspicuous eye spots at the back in the dorsal fin. Inner side of the pectoral fins with three dark, concentric bands.

Size : 10 cm

Habitat : Inhabits coral-rich reefs with clear water, 1-40 m. Shy. Keeps hidden in caves and below overhangs during the day. Can usually only be observed on tis nocturnal hunt.

Distribution : Mauritius to NW Australia, SW Japan, Micronesia and Society Islands.
