Spotfin Lionfish

Pterois antennata

Long pectoral fin spines, bonded at the base with a membrane with a few dark spots.

Size : 20 cm

Habitat : Inhabits lagoons and outer reef, 1-50 m. Usually inactive during the day below overhangs and cavities. Alone or in small groups. Hunts shrimps and crabs in the late afternoon and at night. Common species.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia, S Australia and French Polynesia.
