Conspicuous black “ear spot” on upper gill lid edge

Size : 40 cm

Habitat : Adults in reef vicinity, they sometimes from large schools. Feeds on shrimps and other small and plankton crustaceans, also crustacean larvae as well as small fish.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to Japan, Hawaii and New Caledonia. Migrated by way of the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean.
