Stocky Hawkfish

Cirrhitus pinnulatus

Olive-brown with large white and small black patches.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : At rock and coral reefs, 0.3-5 m. Inhabits surf-exposed external reef tops and reef edges. Usually common in specific areas, however well camouflaged and shy. Feeds on crustaceans, also sea-urchins, brittle starfish and small fish.

Distribution : Red Sea and E Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia and French Polynesia.
