Longnose Hawkfish

Oxycirrhites typus

Long snout. Unmistakable red “tartan” markings.

Size : 13 cm

Habitat : On steep, current-rich out reefs, 5-100, usually only below 20 m. Usually in large Venus sea fans and black coral bushes. Snaps for zooplankton at its exposed station, also feeds on small bottom-dwelling crabs.

Distribution : Red Sea to Mauritius, S Japan, Hawaii, Panama and New Caledonia.
