Painted Sweetlips

Diagramma pictum

Adults silvery light grey. Sub-adult with yellowish brown stripes and patches, juveniles with black-white stripe pattern.

Size : 90 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and out reefs, usually above mixed zones with hard rubble and soft ground, e.g. at patch reefs with candy areas, 3-40 m. During the day alone or in small groups, goes in search of food at night alone, feeds on invertebrate bottom-dwellers.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, PNG and New Caledonia. Occurs in several regional subspecies.
