Specklefin Grouper

Epinephelus ongus

Brown with several large light patches and numerous small light patches lying approximately in row. Juveniles are dark brown with numerous small white to pale yellow spots.

Size : 35 cm

Habitat : Prefers protected, shallow coastal reefs and lagoons, 5-25 m. Somewhat more shy and usually observed in the vicinity of cavities or crevices.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, Marshall Islands, GBR and Tonga.
