Masked Grouper

Gracila albomarginata

Usually easily recognized by the white rectangle on the side. Also by black spot at the tail stalk and lines on the head. This species can rapidly change its color intensity whereby the white rectangle can totally dissapear.

Size : 45 cm

Habitat : Prefers steep outer reef slopes and canals, 5-120 m. Usually alone. But sporadically several fish can be observed in a small reef section. Usually swims or havers a short distance above the reef.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, Micronesia and French Polynesia.
