Coral Grouper

Cephalopholis miniata

Entire body with blue, dark-edged spots. Can show pale vertical stripes. Juveniles show a yellow to orange basic coloration and a few intensively colored spots. The fish shown is about 10 cm long.

Size : 40 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and out reefs, 3-150 m. Prefers clear, coral-rich regions. Common and not shy, lets divers get close.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to SW Japan, Line Islands Australia and French Polynesia.
