Blacksaddle Coralgrouper

Plectropomus laevis

Two colouration variants: grey variant with olive-colored to grey head and 3-5 saddle spots of same color. The black-yellow variant shows very high-contrast black saddle spots on white ground. Snout, fins and tail stalk with more or less yellow.

Size : 125 cm

Habitat : Coral-rich lagoons and out reefs, frequently in reef channels, 5-90 m. Shy. Feeds predominantly on fish, also relatively large ones, among them parrot fish and groupers.

Distribution : East Africa ro SW Japan, Marshall Islands and French Polynesia.
