Orange-dashed Goby

Valenciennea puellaris

Pale blue cheek spot. Yellow-orange coloured patches along the side. Colour intensity can be very different depending on bottom surface.

Size : 15 cm

Habitat : In clear lagoons, bays and outreefs, 3-30 m. Inhabits self-made caves, often below pebbles on sandy bottom. Usually in pairs before the burrow entrance. Feeds on tiny invertebrates taken with the sand into its mouth and sifted through the gills.

Distribution : Red Sea to Madagascar, S Japan, Palau and Samoa.
