Decorated Sandgoby

Istigobius decoratus

Whitish with numerous dark patches, often in a reticulated pattern.

Size : 12 cm

Habitat : In protected outreefs, bays and lagoons, 1-20 m. Sifts sand for tiny invertebrates. Loner, not shy. In search of food, often makes short stops lying on the sand.

Distribution : Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar to Taiwan and New Caledonia.
