Curious Wormfish

Gunnellichthys curiosus

Broad orange horizontal stripes. Black tail spot.

Size : 12 cm

Habitat : On sand and rubble ground, 7-60 m. Floats or swims with undulating movements close to the seabed. Extremely vigilant and shy. When disturbed, rapidly dives head first into its narrow burrow.

Distribution : Madagascar, Seychelles to the Philippines, Palau, Hawaii and French Polynesia.
