Freckled Goatfish

Upeneus tragula

Reddish-brown, often has broken horizontal stripe. Caudal fins with dark stripes.
Freckled goatfish can rapidly change their coloration from pale big to vivid red.

Size : 30 cm

Habitat : On sandy to muddy grounds, often in turbid lagoons, bays and protected out reefs, 1-20 m. Ranges alone or in small groups in search of bottom-dwelling invertebrates.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
