Parupeneus crassilabris

Two dark saddle spots, the first extends downwards not beyond the pectoral fin. Small dark spot at the eye. Purple variant is less high-contrast.

Size : 35 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and out reefs, 2-80 m. Alone, not shy. Rests motionlessly on coral or stony ground. Feeds on invertebrate bottom-dwellers.

Distribution : Eastern India Ocean to SW Japan, the Philippines, New Caledonia and Tonga.
