Mimic Filefish

Paraluteres prionurus

Rear dorsal fin much broader than the very similar Valentin’s Sharpnose Puffer, for which it is often mistaken.

Size : 11 cm

Habitat : Lives in clear lagoons and outreefs, 2-25 m. Imitates the poisonous pufferfish. Alone or small groups; males are territorial.

Distribution : Gulf of Aden and East Africa to S Japan, Marshall Islands, GBR and New Caledonia.
